About Slovenia as a wine country
Slovenia borders Italy, Austria, Hungary and Croatia. It is located between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea. This makes Slovenia the only country in Europe that is influenced by Mediterranean, continental and alpine climates. The winegrowers have therefore been inspired by the wine culture of all the neighbouring countries.
In Slovenia today the continental grapes Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Silvaner, Furmint, Malvasia, Müller-Thurgau are largely used, but you can also find red grapes like Pinot Noir and Blaufränkisch. Biodynamic production methods are becoming increasingly popular.
The map shows all wine regions together with the most important grapes in each region.
