About Priorat

The Priorat wine region is located in Catalonia and is one of Spain’s most highly regarded wine regions along with Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Priorat is a mountainous landscape where the soil consists mainly of shale.

Priorat produces mainly dark, intense and concentrated red wines. Most of the wines are blends of several grape varieties, with the highest proportion of Garnacha Tinta (Grenache) and Cariñena (Carignan). Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are also used in the wines but to a lesser extent.

Most vineyards in Priorat produce wines in limited quantities. The wines often get high marks from wine critics. This combination means that Priorat wines are often considered cult wines.
