About Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico represents the original district of Chianti. The area has since expanded around the cities of Siena and Florence. Wines produced in Chianti Classico have the characteristic rooster (Gallo Nero) on the neck of the bottle.

The predominant grape in the Chianti wines is Sangiovese. Other grapes such as Canaiolo Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir can be blended in to a lesser extent. In addition to the traditional Chianti wines, so-called Supertuscans are also produced, using typical Bordeaux grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Many times together with the native grape Sangiovese.

The map shows the main districts together with the main producers of Chianti Classico.
